Omate‘s first smartwatch was an Android-powered device that you could use to run apps, make phone calls, or pair with your phone to display notifications. But what makes the Omate Truesmart different from most smartwatches was that it could be a truly stand-alone device.

Priced at $299, it’s also more expensive than most smartwatches.

Now Omate is introducing a more affordable watch. It’s called the Omate X and the company describes it as a “companion smartwatch” which is designed to be used with a phone. With pre-orders beginning September 1st for $129, it’s also less than half the price of a TrueSmart.

The Omate X has a 1.54 inch, 240 x 240 pixel TFT LCD curved touchscreen display, a 400mAh battery for up to a week of battery life. You can pair the phone with an Android or iOS phone over Bluetooth 4.0 low energy.

It has a 3-axis motion sensor and an accelerometer buttons on the side for power and home functions. The watch has an aluminum case, removable watch straps.

The device has a simpler user interface and fewer functions than the Omate Truesmart. But it can display notifications about incoming calls or messages, social network updates, or other details from your phone. The Omate X also displays weather information, works as a remote control for music playback on your phone, and has a customizable clock, wallpaper, and other features.

While it doesn’t have all the features you’d get with an Android Wear device like the LG G Watch or Samsung Gear Live, Omate is working on adding voice controls and unlike Android Wear, the Omate X will work with Apple devices running iOS 6 or later as well as devices running Android 4.3 or later.

Pre-orders run from September 1st through the 30th and Omate plans to start shipping watches in October.

  1. DO NOT buy from Omate. I have also paid for it and still have not received my watch as promised. They also did not respond to my emails.

  2. Don’t buy anything from Omate. I paid this company approx $200 for
their first smart watch on kickstarter last Oct (2013). Guess what I still
don’t have a watch! Their company does not write back to its customers
(ie you have 0 customer service). Several kickstarter customers are in
the same boat as me. No refunds have been offered. No product has
been sent. I would never give my money to this company ever again
based on this experience. Customers be warned! Look elsewhere. Moto
360 looks great or consider an Iwatch. At least you know that apple
and motorola will actually deliver you a product and that you will at
least have some level of customer support. BE WARNED. OMATE = THIEVES!
Pass this information on to all people considering Omate.

  3. Do not under any circumstances buy anything from Omate. They launched a Kickstarter campaign promised a True smart watch gave impressive specs then once they had the backers money they dumped an inferior defective watch on us. Mine lasted 3 weeks before it became a paperweight. Omate has ignored the complaints from numerous backers including me. No refund, no replacement, no repairs. They didn’t even tell us about the downgrades for the watch, we found out by ourselves. Take a look on Kickstarter comments for Omate or look it up on Wikipedia. They are also an internet only company so pressing charges is next to impossible without an address – I have spent several hours trying.

    1. A week of running time? Why would you want a watch that you have to constantly put on charge? This is one of the major reasons why Pebble is the ourright leader in smart watches IMO.

      1. Well, I have the Kickstarter edition of Pebble and it will run 5-7 days… so it is about the same as the Omate X.
No problems to charge it. I need to charge my phone each day.
