Looking for a gaming laptop, but don’t want a notebook that weighs more than a car? There are two new thin and light options available, courtesy of CyberPower and Origin.

The CyberPower Zeusbook Edge is a 4.75 pound notebook with NVIDIA graphics and a 15.6 inch full HD display. Origin’s EVO15-S has similar specs, but weighs 4.3 pounds and the company offers an option for an even-higher resolution display.

Just don’t count on either model being cheap.

  1. how is thin considered thin and light, i want a computer with a 10-13″ display, weighs 2-3lbs and has a 6 hour battery life with still nice graphics and heavy ram, ssd, etc..

    1. The ‘Thin & Light’ category has been around for a long time… Never clearly defined, but normally wider than just ultralights / ultraportables (now ultrabooks). These options would fit right in.

The old Sony Vaio Z’s would have come close to your criteria. The first models had a discrete GPU though were over 3lbs, whereas the later models were under 3lbs but had the dGPU housed in an external Thunderbolt (1) enclosure. Of course, these are all fairly old now; the new Pros were supposed to be the alternate, but no dGPU and had some issues which made them hard to recommend.

The main issue is the ‘nice graphics’ bit; discrete GPU in a sub-3lb is difficult; I’m sure it can be done, but can’t think of one off the top of my head.

    2. Why do you look at gaming notebooks when you want to be on the thinner and lighter side of ‘thin and light’, which has always been a stretchable marketing scheme.

And if battery life is important, don’t get a gaming machine. What rock have you been living under?

  2. The Cyberpower is a P35w v2 from Gigabyte. Can find multiple other options of the same (iBuypower, XoticPC)

Not sure if the Origin one is off an OEM design, or a one-off for them, but it does look good…
