Hulu is making some of its full-length TV shows and movies available for free on a mobile device for the first time.

Up until now if you’ve wanted to watch Hulu content on a smartphone or tablet you’ve needed a Hulu Plus subscription. Now you can just download and install the Hulu Plus app for Android and start browsing for free content. Many of the ad-supported videos which you can already watch using a desktop web browser are now available on Android devices.

Some of the free content I’ve found so far includes Hulu Exclusives and originals such as Deadbeat, Moone Boy, and Rev.

Unfortunately not everything available in a desktop browser is available. For example, if you want to watch  most episodes of the Daily Show and Colbert Report you’ll still need to pay $7.99 per month for Hulu Plus.

Of course you can upgrade to Hulu Plus any time just by clicking the prominent Upgrade button in the Android app to get started.

There’s also a Hulu Plus app for iOS, but iPhone and iPad users don’t yet have access to all the ad-supported free content that’s now available on Android.

Folks outside of the US and Japan are also out in the cold. Those are currently the only regions Hulu officially supports.

Liliputing's primary sources of revenue are advertising and affiliate links (if you click the "Shop" button at the top of the page and buy something on Amazon, for example, we'll get a small commission).

But there are several ways you can support the site directly even if you're using an ad blocker and hate online shopping.

  1. Thanks for the article Brad. Netflix app (or Hulu, or BBC, etc) is great on Android. If live outside USA, you can use tools like UnoTelly to get Netflix (or Hulu, or BBC, etc) on your Android.

  2. Maybe Hulu will figure out that any screen o which they can display an ad is profitable.

Also, the only way I’m subscribing to Hulu Plus is if I get an ad-free experience. I recognize that ads pay the bills, but they’re not my favorite thing — so I’ll pay my way in order to get rid of them.
