The HP Chromebox is a tiny, cheap desktop computer with an Intel Celeron Haswell processor and Google’s Chrome operating system. HP started selling the Chromebox in June for $179 and up, but the cheapest model ships with no peripherals (unless you count the power cable).
Now you can pick up a Chromebox with a keyboard and mouse for $199. If you’ve already got a keyboard and mouse lying around, you can save $20 and use those — but the official keyboard features a layout designed specifically for Chrome OS.
The HP Chromebox has an Intel Celeron 2955U dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM (upgradeable to 4GB), a 16GB solid state drive, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, Gigabit Ethernet, 4 USB 3.0 ports, HDMK port, headphone and mic jacks, and an SD card reader.
Despite a claim on HP’s website suggesting that the Chromebox is fanless, it is not.
HP’s keyboard and mouse are both wireless and the chiclet-style keyboard features dedicated Chrome buttons for search, back, forward, refresh, and other functions.
