Mozilla has rolled out a new feature Firefox for Android feature that lets you place custom “panels” on your home screen. Instead of just viewing your history, frequently visited sites and reading list you can now add panels for Vimeo, Instagram, Wikipedia, or other sites.
This brings pictures, video, news, or other information to your home screen, letting you view fresh content every time you fire up your browser — even before you navigate to a website.
There are only a handful of panels available at launch, but Mozilla is making a Firefox Hub API available to third-party developers, so the number could grow. Just fire up a recent build of Firefox, go to the add-ons menu, and search for “panel” to see what you can see.
The feature should work with Firefox for Android version 30 or later, but there are bug fixes in Firefox 32 beta has some bug fixes and other new features worth checking out including the ability to switch between languages without restarting the browser. Firefox currently supports 54 languages.
The Gamepad API has also been finalized, allowing you to play browser-based games using a remote controller.
Yeah, until I see some REAL bookmark management like exists on the desktop version of Firefox, I see no compelling reason to use it. Despite these frilly waste of time “new” features. Get focused on what matters Firefox…
Bring back text reflow or it’s a useless effort.
Hm. Firefox team, How about first starting with the basics, like letting the user save a dozen or two bookmarks as a list that can be drag and drop reordered by the user?
