Chinese phone maker Oppo is launching two new smartphones with 5 inch screens. The company says the new Oppo R3 is the world’s thinnest smartphone to support 4G LTE, and with a body that measures 6.3mm, or less than 0.25 inches thick, it’s hard to dispute that claim.

Meanwhile, as expected, the Oppo N1 Mini is a 5 inch phone that shares some features with last year’s 5.9 inch Oppo N1.

Oppo R3

While this phone is super-thin, it’s not exactly super-powered. It features a 5 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel display, a 1.6 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage.

Those specs aren’t going to put it into superphone territory, but the Oppo R3 does bring a touch of class to the mid-range smartphone space with a simple (and slim) design.

Other features include an 8MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera, a microSD card slot, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G, and 4G.

Oppo N1 Mini

Like the original Oppo N1, this phone stands out thanks to an unusual camera that rotates to face the front or back of the device. That means you get the same 13MP camera with an LED flash whether you’re snapping photos of friends or shooting selfies.

While the larger Oppo N1 has a Snapdragon 600 CPU and full HD display, the Mini has a 720p screen and Snapdragon 400 processor.

The phone features 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and measures about 0.36 inches thick. It’s no Oppo R3.

It’s not clear if or when either phone will be offered outside of Oppo’s home country of China. The company does sell some, but not all of its smartphones internationally.

  1. Well rather have oneplus, specs are horrible on those two devices. Also looking at moto x and sony xperia z2…

  2. The new interface is good, but I definitely think is very practical seeing more content on the screen, so I prefer the two-column view.
We could make a little poll.
Of course that’s just a little suggestion. It’s Mr. Linder’s site, so he has the last word.

  3. I like the new simple blog style for the content. Less distracting way of seeing the new stories.

    1. Thanks. I almost changed it by accident while trying to do something else… but you’re the second person to tell me they like it and nobody’s complained yet. 🙂

Technically I can fit a little more content on the screen when I use the 2-column article view on the homepage, but this does probably look a bit cleaner.
