Two new products from NVIDIA showed up at the FCC this week. One appears to be a tablet-shaped device which suggests it could be a next-gen NVIDA Tegra Note 7 tablet, while the other looks like a next-gen NVIDIA Shield handheld game console.
Since there are no specs in the FCC listings it’s hard to say if these devices will offer major new features or just modest differences from existing models. But NVIDIA does have a powerful new processor launching this year.
Update: It looks like the “new” Tegra Note tablet might just be the same 4G LTE model we saw in April.
It’s been nearly a year since the first-generation NVIDIA Shield hit the streets, and a little over half a year since the Tegra Note 7 went on sale, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see new models launch within the next few months.
In January, NVIDIA did begin showing a next-gen tablet prototype featuring a Tegra K1 processor, a full HD display, and 4GB of RAM, but it’s not clear if that’s the device we’re looking at here. Update: It’s probably not…  While it’s likely a next-gen Tegra Note tablet is in the works, this appears to be the original tablet with a Tegra 4 chip + integrated 4G LTE.Â
Benchmark results that may or may not be for a next-gen Shield were leaked online in March, suggesting that this device could also have a Tegra K1 chip and 4GB of RAM.
Just about the only thing we know for certain about the devices that hit the FCC this week are that they have new model numbers.
The original NVIDIA Tegra Note has an FCC ID of VOB-P1640 when it showed up at the regulatory agency’s website last September. The new model is labeled VOB-P1988.
The original NVIDA Shield was labeled VOB-P2450 and the new model wears the P2570Â label.
