Motorola has introduced a device that could do for stereo systems what the Chromecast is doing for TVs. Moto Stream is a small device that you can plug into just about any speaker or stereo system with a line input to turn it into a Bluetooth speaker.

Then just fire up your phone, tablet, or PC, find the tunes you want to play, and you can beam them to the speaker.

Moto Stream is now available for $50.

Moto Stream

That makes it easy to stream music from internet radio services like Songza or Pandora, music-on-demand from Spotify or Google Play Music, or podcasts or just about any other audio you can access on your phone.

Moto Stream also supports “Heist” mode which lets you pair up to 5 devices at the same time. That way any of those 5 phones or tablets can queue up the next song or playlist, and if you don’t like the music that’s currently streaming, you can just “heist” it and insert your own tracks.

You could pick up a cheap Bluetooth speaker for less than the price of a Moto Stream, but if you’ve already got a good stereo system, Motorola’s $50 device could let you listen to internet music on the best speakers in the house.

Motorola isn’t the first company to introduce a device of this type, but the Moto Stream looks like a pretty solid option. It supports Bluetooth connections from up to 300 feet away and supports NFC to help you pair devices quickly just by tapping them against the Moto Stream.

  1. I have had sony ericsson MW600 for less $$. It supports pairing with and switching between multiple devices. It also has FM radio and mic and the battery lasts for 8 hours. That was all 3 years ago.

  2. There are many no name devices for playing audio from phone through any stereo over bluetooth for around 20 bucks. But the multiple user mode sounds pretty useful. Does it only work with mp3 files on the phone or could it cue up spotify streams as well?
