In another sign that WQHD is the new 1080p, it looks like yet another smartphone with a 2560 x 1440 pixel display is on the way.

An unannounced smartphone called the Alcatel One Touch D820 showed up at the GFXBench website recently.

If the details at GFXBench are accurate, this phone will have a 4.6 inch, WQHD display, a MediaTek MT6595 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage.

MediaTeks’ MT6595 chip is an octa-core processor with 4 ARM Cortex-A17 cores and 4 ARM Cortex-A7 cores working together using ARM’s big.LITTLE technology. The chip features PowerVR Series 6 graphics, H.265 video support, and 802.11ac WiFi.

In other words, the high resolution screen may not be the only thing that helps this phone stand out.

According to the benchmarking website, the phone has a 7MP rear camera and a 7MP front camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS. It’s currently running Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

There’s no word on whether the phone will make to the United States. While Alcatel One Touch isn’t a big name in the States, the company does sell a few handsets through US carriers.

  1. I hope the GPU has enough bandwidth for that resolution. Mediatek last quad core couldn’t handle 1080p well because of this issue.

  2. The MT6595 also has LTE so it would be easier to sell to US carriers once the chipset gets qualified.

  3. Yes, with all the whining on Ars Technica right now about how the LG G3 has “too many pixels” I begrudgingly bought a QHD display and said to myself:

“Gee, I wish this screen had fewer pixels.”

Wait, what am I talking about??? I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever in my life said that I wished a screen had fewer pixels!!!
