Adobe is introducing its next-generation of apps for writing, drawing, and editing and managing images. In addition to updated versions of the company’s Creative Suite for desktop, there are a number of new apps for mobile devices… and by mobile devices I mean iPhone and iPad.

I don’t see any mention of Android in the announcement.

Here’s a brief run-down of Adobe’s new mobile apps:

  • Adobe Photoshop Mix: Edit images on your mobile device and save them to the cloud to pick up where you left off on your computer.
  • Adobe Sketch: Draw pictures using digital pencil and pen tools.
  • Adobe Line: Draw precision images using drafting tools for a mix of “organic” drawing and straight lines with options including T-squares and other shape tools.
  • Lightroom: Adobe’s image management app was already available for iPad. Now it works on iPhone too.

Sketch, Line, and Mix are iPad-only, while Lightroom is now available for iPad and iPhone. Adobe is also introducing Creative Cloud for iPad and iPhone, an app that lets users manage files and assets stored in the cloud from a mobile device.

Adobe is also introducing its first hardware for writing and drawing. Adobe Ink is an aluminum stylus for use with an iPad, while Adobe Slide is a digital ruler.

The new mobile apps are all available for free from the App Store, but the Slide and Ink run $199. Clearly they’re aimed at professionals and serious artists, not casual users — although just about anyone can use the free apps for sketching, drawing, and editing images.
