Samsung is slapping a rugged case on its 10 inch Galaxy Tab 4 Android tablet, adding education-oriented software and support software, and positioning the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education as a tablet for use in K-12 classrooms.

The tablet is available for $370, and schools can get Management Console support for $30 per unit.

The specs for the Android tablet are pretty much the same as those for the consumer version of the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1.

It features a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot, 3MP rear camera, 1,3MP front camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 6800mAh battery for up to 10 hours of run time. The tablet runs Android 4.4 KitKat.

What makes this model a bit different are the rugged case which helps keep the tablet safe from in-class abuse and support for the Google Play for Education platform which helps educators find teacher-approved apps and helps school administrators manage multiple devices.

The tablet will also be compatible with the upcoming Samsung School platform for managing technology in the classroom.

Other tablets that support Google Play for Education include the HP Slate 8 Pro, Asus Transformer Pad, and Google Nexus 7, all of which are cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Education.
