The MINIX Neo X8 Android TV box features an Amlogic S802 quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, at least 8GB of storage, and Android 4.4 KitKat software. It supports 4K Ultra HD video playback, and comes with XBMC media center software preloaded.
Announced in April, the MINIXÂ Neo X8 is now up for pre-order, along with the MINIX Neo X8s, a model with more storage and better audio.
Both devices feature 3 USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 Ethernet, 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI and S/PDIF. And both have an external antenna and IR receiver for use with a remote control.
What makes the Neo X8s a little different is the Amlogic S802-H processor with Dolby Digital Audio and the extra storage: it comes with 16GB of built-in storage while the cheaper model has just 8GB. Both devices have microSD card slots for additional storage.
DealExtreme is taking pre-orders for the Neo X8 and Neo X8s for $132 and $152, respectively, but you can find the TV boxes for as little as $119 at AliExpress.
There are cheaper options for folks looking for an Amlogic S802-powered box designed to bring Android apps to a TV. The Tronsmart Vega S89 sells for $105, the Measy B4A costs $96, and the MBOX M8 is $97.
But MINIX has a pretty good reputation for offering products in this category with decent performance. It’s also one of the few Amlogic S802 boxes to feature an external antenna so far, although it’s not clear if that means it has better WiFi reception than the competition.

I pre-ordered the X8-H last week from Geekbuying with the extras. Looking forward to getting it later this month. This will be my first Android TV box and I decided to get it instead of a Chromebox since I already have a Chromebook.
Official presale for NEO X8 and NEO X8-h is coming!!!

whats the main difference between x8 & x8H
NEO X8 use the 8GB emmc storage, while the neo x8-h use the 16gb emmc storage;
the neo x8 use the s802 quad core chip, the neo x8-h use the s802-h quad core chip.
S802 devices use XBMC or MX player S/W.to decoding the dolby and dts.
S802-H support hardware decoding dolby and dts ,which means no matter which video player you use, it will always have sound.
more storage = more power consumption , more heat, more noise if mechanical, bigger box and not the less a higher price. I prefer to use SD card for Android app and connect to a NAS for the other bigger thinks (NAS shared with all other equipement in the house)
I end up doing that as well but some local storage isn’t a bad thing either.
Ok, I need to reply here again, I hope similar Tech site can stop spreading this news! Because it’s FAKE!!
MINIX Haven’t prepared to release the presale link for neo x8 and x8s,we(geekbuying) are still talking with them and confirm the presale price and what gift will be send in presale, they don’t allow any seller to list the presale link before they confirm everything, but DX or the supplier behind DX break the rules, the finally specification should still have some change! Please guys, hold your money, and wait for the official release on geekbuying and other local distributor!
What about my tronsmart product I bought from geekbuying last year? It’s been most of a year since I purchased that item. It did not work right out of the box. I was told to send it back at my own expense, which I did. After that, geekbuying has ignored all of my communications.
Sorry to hear your problem, i will look into your case, and make sure you get good solutions. please let me know your order numbers.
Geekbuying is serious business company, and we do care about our customer reputations, we should not break our customer repupation for just one order. it’s stupid. so there must be some mis-undertanding in the whole thing, let me know.
thanks
Are you writer from geekbuying?
Yeap, the guy who writing a lot of reviews in blog.geekbuying.com. ha
My guess is that the only reason why we don’t see more Android boxes with more on board storage is that 8gb is running hella cheap right now.
I’d love to see a hybrid setup with an internal SATA port and a hard drive bay for storage.
I like the way you think. 8GB might be okay for a stick PC, but these box-style units would benefit from more internal storage.
I’d love to see android devices with M-sata slots on them.
