LG is holding an event on May 27th where the company is expected to unveil its next-gen flagship smartphone. But we’ve been hearing about the device for months thanks to a series of leaks. Now it looks like the mother-of-all leaks may give us a pretty good idea of what to expect when the LG G3 is announced.

The company apparently held a pre-release event for a Korean retailer, and photos from that event are making the rounds at sites including Phone Arena and G for Games. Here’s the picture they paint:

  • 5.5 inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel IPS display (538 ppi)
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core CPU
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB storage
  • 13MP rear camera w/optical image stabilization
  • 2.1MP front-facing camera
  • 3000mAh battery
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC
  • 5.8″ x 2.9″ x 0.35″

LG is also playing up the front-facing camera’s performance when shooting selfies (remember when these cameras were all about video calling?) and says there’s a 1W booster amp for audio.

Like the LG G2, the new G3 has a rather unusual button layout with power and volume buttons on the back of the device beneath the rear camera.

  1. I think the button placement is hurting sales on these phones. I wonder if they will continue with the center back placement or migrate to a more traditional layout at some point.

    1. It seems the button placement on the back is to get the bezels as small as possible. They can take space next to the screen. At least that’s how it was when I saw the insides of other smartphones.

Also, when I handled the older G2 with one hand, my finger can easily reach them and were easy to press. It was more difficult had they been on the top or upper side of the phone. That likely differs with how people hold their phone and the size of their hands though.

My main issue is the possible physical size of the G3 with its 5.5″ screen. I just went from a 4.3″ screen to a 4.7″ one (Moto X) last month but the physical size is the same. Handling the M8 and S5 was too much for me coming from the the 4.3″ screen at the time. Maybe next year, my perspective will change and the G3 would be “just right.”
