Google’s Chromecast is already one of the cheapest device you can attach to a TV in order to stream internet video to the big screen. But Google’s sweetening the deal a bit for UK customers.
For a limited time, anyone who buys (or has already bought) a Chromecast in the UK can visit cast.google.com/chromecast/offers in a web browser to get a £4.99 Google Play Store credit. They can use the money to buy or rent videos… or purchase Android apps, books, music, or any other content Google sells in the Play Store.
If you’re wondering why Google set up an “offers” site just for a single promotion… the company probably didn’t. It looks like the UK promotion might be just the first offer to go live. More offers could be on the way.
According to Google, “offers vary by location,” but there may not be offers available in some locations right now.
Customers in the UK will be able to use their credits on any device purchased and set up by July 15th, 2014. But if you visit the site in the US or another location, Google will search for a Chromecast on your network and let you know if there are any available offers. The message will pop up both in your browser and on your TV.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Chromecast-related promotion. From time to time, US retailers have temporarily dropped the $35 price tag to $30. And during the 2013 holiday season, Google offered $35 in Play Store credit to customers who bought both a Nexus 7 tablet and a Chromecast at the same time.
