Acer plans to launch a new Chromebook this year which it says will have the most powerful CPU available in a Chrome laptop. The upcoming model will feature an Intel Core i3 Haswell CPU.

Other details are scarce, but Acer says the new model will have the same chassis as the company’s existing Acer C720 line of 11.6 inch Chromebooks.

In other words, don’t be surprised if the Core i3 model is faster… but continues to have a 1366 x 768 pixel display, a non-removable battery and other limitations that affect the company’s current line of Chromebooks. For the right price, it might be easy to overlook those shortcoming though.

Up until now, the only Chrome laptop to feature an Intel Core series processor has been the $1299 Google Chromebook Pixel, featuring a Core i5 Ivy Bridge CPU.

      Neither of these complaints is true, despite the millions Microsoft has spent to convince people otherwise.

    2. @tfosorcim : You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. I have been printing from Chromebooks for 3 years, and I have been using offline apps (including transcribing medical notes while offline in a hospital) for the same amount of time.

      A Chromebook’s most important virtue: It doesn’t run Windows! (See latest government warnings about MSIE vulnerabilities).

I had to show a guy in the Microsoft store how a Chromebook works, because no one told him it was marketing propaganda!… Their $249 Windows laptop could not beat my Chrome Browse time nor 7 second bootup time… it was taking so long for windows to do a cold boot I just left… Not all Windows are like this but for $1000, I would hope not also?

      Chromebooks have value and purpose… people on the other hand for some…. not so much.

  4. I agree screens are the biggest annoyance facing laptops (even phones have gone soaring past them) IMO they have stagnated over the last 10 years at 1366×768 it is a noticeably bad resolution in some/most cases

  5. 1366 x 768, oh really? All these (chrome) laptops from different manufacturers designed and made specifically for browsing and online usage.. why so crappy screens? – especially so few vertical pixels, that makes browsing so painful.

    1. Well for $199 for a laptop what did you expect? You want a higher resolution go for the ultrabooks. And really, nobody’s eyes is really that sensitive. How close do you put your face to your laptop?

      1. It’s about having to scroll two pages instead of seeing the whole page at once on the screen. Makes browsing experience a lot pleasurable you know.

      2. Face at 18″ from laptop when I work. 1366×768 isn’t good enough. I’m looking forward to checking out the 13.3″ Sammy-2 in a month or so. I have a Sammy-1 as a secondary machine, and while I like the OS, the battery life, the keyboard, and many other things about the machine, the display just doesn’t cut it for use as a primary machine.
