Want to use your Chromecast to watch live or recorded TV? There’s an app for that… under development. But it should be available to the public soon.

The only catch is that you’ll need to buy a Slingbox… and probably pay for the app — Sling Media’s SlingPayer apps ain’t cheap. They usually run about $15.

A Slingbox is a device you connect to your home media devices including your cable box, DVR, or other gadgets. Once it’s set up, you can stream live TV or recordings over the internet to PC, Mac, tablet, or smartphone using a SlingPlayer app or web browser.

SlingPlayer also supports a number of internet TV boxes including Apple TV, Roku, WD TV Live, and Netgear Neo TV.

Now a member of the Sling Media team has confirmed that the company is working on adding support for Google’s $35 Chromecast media streaming device.

That would let you use a Chromecast to stream content from a DVR in another room in your house… or in a different house altogether.

The SlingBox 350 and SlingBox 500 have list prices of $180 and $300, respectively, but bargain hunters can pick them up from Amazon for $148, and $292,
