Google’s media streaming device is shedding its US-only status. You can now pick up a Chromecast in 11 new countries including Canada, the UK, and much of Europe.

Plug the Chromecast into your TV and you can stream internet media while using your phone, tablet, or PC as a remote control — and along with the international launch come support for a number of new international Chromecast apps.

In the UK, for instance, you can now use the BBC iPlayer app to stream media to a Chromecast. French users can stream content from France TV Pluzz and SFR TV, and German users can stream content from Watchever.

All told, Chromecast is now available in Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the UK and the US and it should be available from retailers including the Google Play Store, Amazon, and Currys PC World.

In the US, the Chromecast sells for $35. It costs $39 in Canada, €35 in Europe, and £30 in the UK. While those prices make the device seem a little pricier overseas than in Google’s home country, the Chromecast is still one of the cheapest devices for turning a standard television into a smart TV.

When the Chromecast launched in 2013 it only supported a handful of online video sites and it was only available in one country. Since then we’ve steadily seen a number of additional video and music sites hop on board and since Google launched an official Chromecast SDK the number of apps that support Chromecast has grown even faster. Now that it’s available internationally, I suspect the trend will continue.
