Google’s offering two months of free, on-demand music to customers who pick up select Chromebooks.
From now through September 30th, 2014 if you pick up most Chromebook models, you get 60 days to try out Google Play Music All Access, Google’s online music streaming service.
All Access subscriptions normally run about $10 per month and Google typically offers new subscribers a 30-day free trial. So really you’re only getting $10 in savings with this new offering. But 60 days should provide plenty of time to decide whether you want to continue paying for Google’s music streaming service.
Just make sure to cancel your membership before your 60 days is up if you don’t want to keep paying, otherwise you’ll be automatically billed once the free trial concludes.
Note that the offer is only available to new subscribers. If you’ve ever taken advantage of a free trial for All Access before, you won’t be able to use the new trial.
The 60-day trial offer is good in all countries where Google Play Music All Access is offered.
Overall this seems like a smart move — not only does it sweeten the deal for Chromebook customers, but it’s also a way to get people even more hooked on Google’s services. Ultimately the reason Google gives away its Android and Chrome OS software for free is to encourage device makers to use them… and for customers to then spend more time interacting with Google’s web-based services including search, Gmail, Google Play Music, YouTube, and more.Â
Google already offers 100GB of free Google Drive cloud storage for 2 years to most folks who buy Chrome OS devices and offers 12 free Gogo in-flight WiFi passes when you buy select models.
The Google Play Music offer is good for pretty much every Chromebook and Chromebox on the market except the Cr-48, Acer AC700, and Samsung Series 5 Chromebook.
