Asus has quietly added two new 13 inch ultrabooks to its Zenbook family, including a relatively inexpensive model with a 1366 x 768 pixel display and higher-priced model with a full HD screen and NVIDIA graphics.

Both laptops feel Intel Haswell processors.

While the new laptops don’t appear to be available in the United States yet, Mobile Geeks reports you can pick them up in Germany for about 699 Euros and 899 Euros respectively.

Asus Zenbook UX32LA

The Zenbook UX32LA is one of the cheapest members of the Zenbook family. You can probably thank the relatively low-resolution 1366 x 768 pixel display for that.

But the Zenbook UX32LA has some premium features including Bang & Olufsen speakers, a backlit keyboard, and a case that measures less than 0.71 inches thick. The notebook weighs about 3.2 pounds.

The system has 3 USB 3.0 ports HDMI and mini DisplayPort, an SD card reader, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and a 50Whr battery. It’s available with a choice of 4th generation Intel Core i3, Core i5, or Core i7 processor, 4GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of storage (with a choice of a 128GB SSD or a larger hard drive).

Asus Zenbook UX32LN

This model is about the same size and shape as the UX32LA, but in addition to an Intel Haswell processor with Intel HD 4400 graphics, the Asus Zenbook UX32LN features NVIDIA GeForce GT 840M graphics.

It also has a 1920 x 1080 pixel display.

Most of the other specs, including the ports. battery. and wireless options are the same, but the NVIDIA graphics and full HD display help drive up the cost. Starting prices for this mode are about 200 Euros higher than those for the Zenbook UX32LA.

  1. Is the UX32LN with an i7 the one that’s 900 Euro, or is it a UX32LN with a core i5 that costs the 900 Euro??

  2. I know this is a terrible question but…how long do people think this will take to make it over to us/canada?

  3. Ok, almost. Just need wired Ethernet so I can do WoL and PXE. USB Ethernet adaptor won’t cut it.

  4. If it is no more than $1000 for the 1920×1080 model, I will definitely buy one. I have been waiting a long time for a PC competitor to the 13″ haswell Macbook Air. Apple is the only company making a Haswell entry level ultrabook around the $1000 pricepoint.

    1. “Apple is the only company making a Haswell entry level ultrabook around the $1000 pricepoint.”

What are you talking about? The Yoga 2 Pro starts at $999.

      1. Sorry, I should rephrase my statement. Apple is the only company making a ‘Gimmick-free’ Haswell entry level ultrabook around the $1000 pricepoint. The Yoga 2 Pro really tempted me, especially because of the screen resolution. But the gimmicky screen hinge, and the fact the $999 only buys you a Core i3, kept me waiting for something new.

        1. > the fact the $999 only buys you a Core i3

I don’t know what you’re talking about. The Yoga 2 Pro page shows an i5 4200U right now for $999.

          > But the gimmicky screen hinge

You know what happens if you don’t ever push the hinges (plural) past 120 degrees? Absolutely nothing! The hinges are stiff enough that the Yoga 2 Pro can be always used as a laptop. I promise you, it’s not going to explode.

          1. It appears the Canadian Lenovo website sells an i3 version at that price. I looked on the US site, and you guys get an i5 for that price.

And you’re right. I had the chance to play with one at Best Buy the other day, and I am comfortable with the screen hinge. I was imagining it being alot more loose than a normal laptop hinge.

          2. Sorry, I didn’t think about Canada… it’s pretty unfair how Lenovo (and everyone else I guess) gives a much bigger discount in the US.

  5. Per a translated website.

    The UX32LN is equipped with anti-reflective 33.7 cm (13.3 inches) – FHD – 1920 x 1080)

  6. is it fair to say that 1366×768 is an unnacceptable resolution for a 13″ notebook in 2014?

    1. Absolutely, but considering the price of 699, it is reasonable to say that you’re probably a few hundred dollars under-budget if this is important to you

  7. I have had their older version of this laptop for over a year. As a video game designer, it has plenty of power to handle everything I need. It’s the ux32vd dh71. It has an nvidia 620m, i7, solid state, 10gb ram.

Here’s an excerpt from a great amazon review on their old model “… do you want the fastest, most powerful, highest resolution, best graphics (excluding Acer which is made of plastic and overheats GT640M vs GT620M) ultrabook on the market?”

If yes, this new asus UX32LN is just that.

  8. Factoring in that Germany’s price would have to include VAT, that LN variant could easily come in under $1,300… not bad at all.

    1. Presently, 699.00 EUR = 972.3859 USD…

But keep in mind that UK adds VAT to imports like this product and the differences in how things are priced between places like the UK and the US means the price in the US would be closer to $699…
