Xtreamer’s latest set-top-box is a small Android-powered device designed to turn your TV into a media center. The Xtreamer SideWinder4 features a good range of ports, connects to the internet over WiFi or Ethernet, and comes with media-centric apps pre-loaded, including the XBMC Media Center app and CheapCast, a tool that lets you use nearly any Android device like a Google Chromecast.

It’s available for pre-order from the Hong Kong-based company for about $111, with an expected ship date of March 3rd, 2014.

You can use the included wireless remote control to navigate music, photos, or movies stored on your device or home network. Or you can use XBMC plugins to stream videos from the internet. Or you can use your Android or iOS phone or tablet to stream content from mobile apps such as Netflix or Hulu Plus.

The box features and AMlogic AM8726-MX dual-core processor, Mali 400 graphics, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. While those specs aren’t exactly spectacular, you don’t need any more than that to handle HD video playback and other basic tasks such as web browsing or Android gaming.

The device has HDMI 1.4, S/PDIF, 3 USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 Ethernet, 802.11n WiFi, Miracast and DLNA support, 5 channel and 7 channel audio passthrough and also works as a DVB-T2 television receiver. The Xtreamer SideWinder4 runs Google Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

If Xtreamer sounds familiar, that’s because this is the same company that introduced a Multi-Console device designed to work as a media center and gaming console in January. The new SideWinder4 has a much lower price tag.

  1. Don’t believe anyone saying that outdated hardware (like this) is enough to “handle HD video playback and other basic tasks such as web browsing or Android gaming.”

For instance, 1080P MKV will run like sh*t, and Android gaming will bring it to its knees (that’s what gaming always does).

  2. $111 for outdated hardware….. Good job Xtreamer!!! Quad core Amlogic is coming soon, why spend $111 dollars on dual core?
