Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is taking its first steps outside its home country. Starting February 21st customers in Singapore will be able to pick up Xiaomi’s Redmi smartphone for 169 Singapore Dollars, or about $134 US.

While the Redmi is Xiaomi’s cheapest phone to date, the company has earned a reputation in China for offering high quality hardware at low prices, and the Redmi seems to fit the bill.

The Redmi phone features a 4.7 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel IPS display, a 1.5 GHz MediaTek MT6589 ARM Cortex-A7 quad-core processor, PowerVR SGX544 graphics, an 8MP camera with a 28mm wide angle lens, dual SIM support, and Xiaomi’s custom version of Android called MIUI.

The phone only has 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage, but it features a microSD card slot, USB on-the-go support, WiFi Direct, and Bluetooth 4.0. It’ll be available in “dozens of colors and designs.”

Xiaomi hired former Googler Hugo Barra in 2013 to head up its efforts to take the brand international. With a first stop in Singapore, it looks like the company is starting to take its first steps outside of China.

  1. think I will be Getting one once, it lauch in SG and hope that it support 4G

    1. It “should” work on pretty much any GSM carrier, the main concern is if it supports 4G/LTE for the specific carrier
