Tizen may not be shipping on any smartphones yet, but the Linux-based operating system appears to be far from dead. The Tizen Project recently announced 15 new partners. Samsung announced its new smartwatches would be powered by Tizen. And now the developers of the open source operating system have officially announced it’s adding support for wearables (obviously) and televisions.

What started out as a platform that looked like an alternative to Android or iOS appears to be evolving into an OS that can be used to power a wide range of devices. There are even Tizen-based cameras.

At Mobile World Congress this week the Tizen announced the winners of $4 million in prizes for developing HTML5 apps for the platform, Samsung showed off demos of phones running a Tizen-based operating system, and developers introduced support for televisions and wearable devices including smartwatches.
