Sony’s next flagship phone features a full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, and Android 4.4 KitKat software. But those features aren’t really enough to set it apart in a crowded field of smartphones.

But the Sony Xperia Z2 does have a few unusual things going for it, including a 20.7MP camera that can shoot 4K video and a waterproof and dust-resistant case.

The Sony Xperia Z2 will launch globally starting in March, 2014.

Other specs include a 5.2 inch, 1920 x 1080 pixel TRILUMINOS display, 3GB of RAM, up to 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, a micro USB port, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, Miracast and DLNA support, and aGPS.

The phone has a 3200mAh battery and features a 2.2Mp front-facing camera.

The 20.7MP camera has a 1./2.3 Exmor RS CMOS sensor and the ability to record videos at 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution at 30 frames per second. SteadyShot image stabilization helps prevent shakycam footage.

At lower resolutions, you can shoot video at up to 120 frames per second.

Sony also includes a mic that can record stereo audio.

In order to keep the phone water and dust proof, there are doors covering most of the important ports — something that was also true of the original Xperia Z smartphone. Assuming you don’t actually need to access the ports very often, I actually kind of like the doors, since they give the phone a more uniform look unbroken by the usual port holes.
