Don’t have enough storage on your phone or tablet for your entire music collection? Not to worry — SanDisk just introduced its first 128GB microSDXC cards.
The 128GB SanDisk Ultra UHS-I card should be available from Amazon and Best Buy for about $200 or less.
I suspect the prices will fall within a few months, but right now this card offers twice as much storage as anything else on the market, which helps justify the premium price.
SanDisk says its cards are about twice as fast as a typical microSD card — but if you want to get specific about it, the company is suggesting that the new Ultra UHS-I cards can handle write speeds of up to 10 MB/s.
The company is also introducing new embedded storage modules for smartphones and tablets. SanDisk says its new iNAND Extreme eMMC can handle sequential write speeds up to 80 MB/s and read speeds up to 300 MB/s. It’s available in capacities up to 64GB, and could show up in consumer devices in the second quarter of 2014.
SanDisk should have made a companion
announcement of a 256 GB SDXC digital
media card for the same or a lower price
than the 128 GB microSDXC card.
