In addition to announcing new Firefox OS devices from partners including ZTE and Alcatel OneTouch, Mozilla is introducing new reference designs for phones and tablets.
The new Firefox OS Flame reference design is for a 4.5 inch phone with a dual-core processor. Mozilla is introducing reference designs for 7 and 10 inch tablets — and developers can apply to receive a reference tablet for testing before they’re available to the public.
Firefox OS FlameÂ
The company’s new smartphone reference design is for a low-to-mid range phone with a 4.5 inch, 854 x 480 pixel display, a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 MSM8210 dual-core processor, 8GB of storage, and between 256MB and 1GB of RAM.
The Firefox OS Flame specs include 5MP rear and 2MP front-facing cameras, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G UMTS, and NFC wireless, and 1800mAh batteries.
It looks like most of the new Firefox phones from ZTE and Alcatel OneTouch are variations of this design.
VIA Vixen 7″ tablet
Mozilla’s new 7 inch tablet design is developed in partnership with chip maker VIA. The design features a 1.2 GHz VIA ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core processor with Mali 400 graphics, a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage.
It has a 2MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, and 802.11n WiFi.
Foxconn InFocus 10″ tablet
Details for the first 10 inch Firefox OS tablet prototype have been available for a little while. But now Mozilla’s making things official by announcing that the Foxconn InFocus is the 10 inch reference tablet for Firefox OS.
It has a 1280 x 800 pixel display, an Allwinner A31 ARM Cortex-A7 quad-core CPU, and PowerVR SGX544MP2 graphics.
The tablet features 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, a 5MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 7000mAH battery.
While the Allwinner A31 chip isn’t exactly a powerhouse, the InFocus is one of the most powerful devices to ship with Mozilla’s browser-based operating system.
