Motorola’s Moto G is already one of the best values in the Android smartphone space. For under $200 you can pick up a carrier-unlocked phone with a 4.5 inch, 720p display, a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, and Android 4.4 KitKat software. Prices start at just $180 for a model with 8GB of storage.

Or you could pick one up from US Cellular for just $100.

Moto G

That’s how much the wireless carrier is asking for the phone after an instant-rebate. US Cellular is offering the phone with no-contract and with with unlimited talk, text and data plans starting at $50 per month (for up to 500MB of high speed data).

There are a few catches. You might have to pay a $20 to $50 activation fee. And you’ll need to be in an area covered by US Cellar. While the company’s network maps make it look like service is available across the country, I had to type in quite a few zip codes before I found one that would let me add the phone to my cart.

Still, if you’re in the market for a budget phone, a budget carrier, and a contract-free plan, it doesn’t get much better than this. Note that this deal is for a Moto G with 8GB of storage and reflects a $90 discount.

  1. fees and setup offset any savings..plus my router has a larger coverage area than their whole network….not avail in Atlanta area,,,,weeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkk

  2. That’s a steal, except that to use it you need a plan with US Cellular… Plus, my address is not in their area of service. 🙁

    1. no, this is a CDMA phone. For StraightTalk you’ll need the GSM model at $179 for the 8GB or $199 for the 16GB. buy it direct from Moto or on Amazon

      1. StraightTalk allows CDMA. They just switch you to Verizon network. As long as the phone is unlocked, I can use it.

  3. “High speed” is a relative term, as the phone is not LTE capable. I am not sure what kind of 3G speeds are available on US cellular’s CDMA network. Per their site: “U.S. Cellular mobile broadband 3G users can expect typical data speedsof 600 Kbps – 1.2 Mbps for downloads and 400-600 Kbps for uploads.” That is compared to the same phone on other faster 3G networks like AT&T getting download speeds theoretically up to 8MBps- but probably more like 3Mbts.

    1. I don’t know how this applies to US Cellular as it’s CDMA, but in the UK at least the GSM version of this phone supports HSPA+ up to 21 mbps, and that works on a number of networks. And that is respectably fast – even compared to LTE.

    2. Reread the specs. They are selling this one with “3G CDMA 8501900MHz EVDO Rev. A /4G LTE”

      1. Unless things have changed, the Moto G does not do 4G anywhere as it lacks a 4G radio. US Cellular has a 4G network, but the Moto G will not be able to use it. And as noted, 3G is reasonably fast on some networks, but not on Verizon or US Cellular’s slower CDMA networks.

        1. Argue with US Cellular, all I did was follow the link to their specs page and cut/paste. If they had to special order the modem anyway, no reason they can’t get anything they ask for from Moto. Or the specs page is just wrong, no way to know without a device in hand.
