Smartwatches don’t have to cost $300 and up. The Pebble smartwatch sells for $150, and a number of companies are working to launch even more affordable options to market this year.

Case in point: You can now pick up a MOTA Smart Watch for just $50.

There’s a catch: That’s a promotional price if you order one through Groupon. Next week the price will go up to $80, but that’s still just over half the price of a Pebble.

MOTA Smart Watch

That said, the MOTA Smart Watch isn’t quite as versatile as the Pebble, It doesn’t support third party apps or have an ePaper display, for instance. But here’s what it can do:

  • Pair with your Android or iOS phones over Bluetooth
  • Vibrate to notify you of incoming calls
  • Display caller ID or incoming numbers on the display
  • Allow you to control media playback on your phone or tablet

The watch looks a bit like a bracelet with a display, but it’ll tell the time, offer at-a-glance battery specs, and it features a mic and speaker which lets you respond to calls without removing your phone from your pocket or bag.

MOTA also offers an anti-loss feature which alerts you if you walk more than 5 feet away from your phone.

  1. These smart watches are extremly ugly, why would you wear a watch made from plastic and looks shitty?

    1. Are you going to be wearing a Rolex while jogging? These watches are for the people that have more active lifestyles and don’t have self-image insecurities.

    2. I think it looks great, I just don’t want something that doesn’t have the latest and greatest tech… which the price suggests
