Spanish phone maker Geeksphone is now taking orders for the Geeksphone Revolution, a phone designed to run either Google Android or the open source version of Firefox OS, also called Boot to Gecko.

It’s available from the Geeksphone store for 222 Euros, or a little over $300 US.

Geeksphone Revolution

While the Revolution supports two different operating systems, Strictly speaking, it’s not a dual-boot phone. You can’t easily load both operating systems and flip between them by rebooting. But you can flash the operating system of your choice using the built-in recovery tools and Geeksphone will provide software support and OS updates for whichever operating system you choose.

The Geeksphone Revolution features a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2560 dual-core processor, a 4.7 inch, 960 x 540 pixel IPS display, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage, a microSD card slot, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, an 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, and a 2000mAh battery. It’s a GSM phone with suppoort for HSPA networks.

While those are the specs of a mid-range phone, at best, the Revolution is the most powerful phone to officially support Mozilla’s browser-based operating system so far.

The phone ships with Android, but all you need to need to do to switch to Firefox OS or another operating system is choose the “install another OS” option in the system updates menu.

Is this a joke :D. (heavy/thick phone, or no battery life time ?)

This phone should be announced at April 1st…

Is there really someone interested by this kind of device today… I believe that’s better to wait for ubuntu OS.

    1. Intel atom really doesn’t belong on a phone, it’s more geared towards tablets and really can’t compete with Nvidia Tegra or Samsung Exynos, but it IS cheaper, hence the $300 pricetag for the phone. And I have to agree this device won’t get much interest from the average Joe, probably a niche device aimed towards developers and tinkerers that want to be able to put their OS of choice on the phone and test something without buying a new device for each OS
