Archos unveils new phones and tablets priced at $249 or less

02/20/2014 at 2:10 PM by Brad Linder 1 Comment

Budget phone and tablet maker Archos is unveiling 3 new Android phones and 1 new Android tablet in advance of Mobile World Congress. The Archos 80 Helium 4G is a low-cost, 8 inch tablet with built-in support for 4G LTE, while the latest Archos phones are mid-range and low-end models priced at $199 or lower.

Archos 80 Helium 4G

The company’s new tablet has an 8 inch, 1024 x 768 pixel display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor with Adreno 305 graphics, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a microSD card slot. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

But the feature that really makes it stand out is the price. At $249, it’s one of the cheapest Android tablets to feature 4G LTE capabilities — and that’s the price before subsidies.

The tablet also has a 5MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, a 3500mAh battery, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and A-GPS.

Archos 50C Oxygen

While all of the new Archos phones are designed as budget devices, this $199 model may be the best of the bunch. It has a 5 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel IPS display, a Mediatek MT6592 octa-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage.

The phone runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and has an 8MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera, and supports WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, HSPA+ and A-GPS. It has a 2000mAh battery.

Archos 64 Xenon

This phone’s bigger, but not necessarily better. It has a 6.4 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel display, a Mediatek MT6582 quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of stroage.

The rest of the features are pretty much the same as those for the 5 inch phone, except this model has a bigger 2800mAh battery and a smaller amount of built-in storage, at just 4GB.

But like all of the other new phones and tablets from Archos, this model has a microSD card slot which you can use to add extra storage.

Like the Archos 50C Oxygen, the ARchos 64 Xenon is expected to sell for $199.

Archos 40b Titanium

The most notable thing about this phone is its price. Archos plans to sell the Archos 40b Titanium for $119. Unfortunately it has the cheap specs to match that price.

The phone sports a 4 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display, a MediaTek MT6572 dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage.

It has a 5MP rear camera, a 0.3MP front-facing camera, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, and a 1400mAh battery. On the bright side, like the other phones it has an IPS display with wide viewing angles and the phone is a Google Play certified device.

ARchos plans to show off its new phones and tablets at Mobile World Congress starting February 24th.
