There are a lot of thin and light notebooks on the market these days, but the LG Ultra PC might just be one of the thinnest and lightest.

It measures 0.54 inches thick and weighs 2.2 pounds. And while the LG Ultra PC has a 13.3 inch full HD display, it’s closer to the size of a 12 inch laptop thanks to a super-thin screen bezel that’s just 4.4mm (0.17inches) on the  left and right sides.

The 1920 x 1080 pixel display is also an IPS display which looks great from just about any angle.

LG will offer models with up to 256GB of solid state storage and with Intel Core i5 Haswell processors. It’ll come in pink, light blue, white, and metallic silver/gray colors options, and the laptop has two full-sized USB ports, a micro USB port, a full-sized HDMI jack, and a headset jack.

Unlike most ultrabooks launched these days, this model does not have a touchscreen display — and for that reason I don’t think LG is actually calling it an ultrabook. Intel insists that new models need to have touch panels. But in pretty much every other way, it out ultras the ultrabooks.

Unfortunately LG has yet to announce a price or release date for the notebook.

  1. There does seem to be some issue about touch screens and bezel size. Yet there was also Intel’s North Cape haswell prototype that had a feature called Smart Frame that was a variable screen size changing between a thick bezel tablet mode and a thin bezel laptop mode. The bezel could be turned off in the tablet mode so you would have a touch capable tablet with a THIN bezel. Unfortunately and mysteriously none of the OEMs adopted this capability so we are all stuck with thick bezel tablets for now.

I hope I am not the only one who wants to ditch the wide bezels. They are a complete waste of real estate as LG has shown with this new pc. We all need to raise a stink about this to get touch screen PCs with thin bezels like some of the smaller ~8 inch tablets have. Who’s with me???

  2. I bet it costs more than $1000. No thanks! If I have to spend more than $600 for my next laptop, I’m getting a 13 inch MacBook Air instead of a Windows PC.

      1. I guess you don’t like windows 8 wait till April next year big blue already promised mice friendly windows 9

  3. Good grief look at those thin side bezels! I could cut myself on those! ;p This laptop may be the narrowest in 13.3″ category ever. Curious that they don’t include a touch screen…perhaps those thin bezels make adding a touchscreen too problematic. Whatever the reason, it’s good to see a product differentiate itself from the pack with well thought out differences.
