Google-owned Motorola offers its flagship Moto X smartphone in dozens of color combinations thanks to the Moto Maker service. But if you want to buy a Google-branded phone you currently have a choice of black or white. That’s it… but maybe not for long.

A rather dubious claim that Google was preparing to offer a wider range of color options for the Nexus 5 made the rounds recently. Now it’s being backed up by a couple of photos from @artyomstar which show a red Nexus 5 smartphone, along with retail packaging.

It looks like the new phone will be pretty much identical to the black and white models… it’ll just be a different color. That means it’ll likely have the same 5 inch, 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, and 16GB to 32GB of storage.

There’s no word on the price or launch date, but Google sells the white and black models for $349 and up.
