The Acer Iconia A1-830Â is an Android tablet with a 7.9 inch display, an Intel Atom processor and a starting price of just $149. It’s due to hit the streets in the first quarter of 2014, and the tablet has just made its required stop at the FCC on the way to store shelves.
This isn’t Acer’s first 8 inch Android tablet, but earlier models were powered by ARM-based chips. The Iconia A1-830 has a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2560 Clover Trail+ CPU instead.
While that’s not the most powerful chip Intel has to offer, it’s fast enough for most tasks and energy efficient enough for Acer to promise up to 7.5 hours of battery life for the tablet.
The Iconia A1-830 also features a 1024 x 768 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a microSD card slot. It has 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, a 4000mAh battery, 5MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing camera, and Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean software.
Acer & the shopping Channel is selling for $349. How can they justify a $200 uplit? Becareful when ordering anything online.
Got super excited when I saw INtel inside then I realized it was Clover Trail not Bay Trail. Now I am walking like Charlie Brown with my head down.
Not bad for an 8″ tablet. Nice specs below $150.
Can this be hijacked and turned into a linux tablet test device? Guess it depends on how well all the devices are supported and most importantly the gpu.
It’s using the Clover Trail+ Z2560 SoC so it uses a PowerVR GPU. That means no Linux support apart from Android. Maybe Ubuntu Touch could be made to work on it though.
With the atom chip I wonder if you can install a stripped down version of XP on it.
or linux, linux is better for stuff like this
I’m glad to see more Android choices in the more useful 4:3 aspect ratio. I hope vendors stop flushing money down the drain on higher pixel resolutions and add hi-res stylus digitizers as standard features in the future though.
I have the same model (a810) and I love it. Got it for around $100, and thats so much tech for the money. A really great buy, use it everyday.
I have acer iconia a810, and that tablet is great for black friday deal that I got (99$s). I have it hooked to TV and it just works great.
