Motorola planned to sell the Moto X smartphone for $150 off on Cyber Monday — but the company’s servers couldn’t keep up with demand, and customers were unable to checkout. So Motorola is trying again.
The company is running a 2-day sale, allowing customers to register for a voucher that’ll let them pick up a Moto X for $150 off the list price. That means you can get a 16GB model for as little as $350.
Update: And the 12/04 codes are gone. If you didn’t get one, you can try again on 12/09!
Update 2: Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside says the company gave out “tens of thousands” of codes in 4 minutes.
Here’s how it works:
- Go to motorola.com/holiday2daysale and register after 12:00PM on either Wednesday December 4th, 2013 or Monday December 9th, 2013.
- Motorola will send you a promo cove via email.
- You can use that code within a week to get $150 off a Moto X.
- Use Moto Maker to customize the design of your phone and enter your code during the checkout process.
The deal is only good for a limited time, and for a limited number of devices — but if Motorola runs out of vouchers on the 4th, the company still plans to offer more on December 9th.
Motorola is only offering the deal on contract-free Moto X phones. If you buy your phone from a wireless carrier, this discount isn’t for you. The promotion also doesn’t cover the Moto X Developer Edition.
Still, the discount now makes an entry-level Moto X phone the same price as an entry-level Google Nexus 5 (for a limited time). The Nexus phone has a higher-resolution display and a faster processor, but the Moto X has touchless controls and active notifications that let you use the phone by talking to it or view notifications even when the screen is (mostly) off.
The Moto X features a 4.7 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16Gb to 32GB of storage, and a 2200mAh battery. It has a 10.5MP rear camera and 2.1MP front-facing camera.
Motorola is also offering 30 percent discounts on some accessories through Monday, December 9th when you use the promo code THANKS at checkout.
I’ve got 2 but I want to sell them for 125$ each. Anyone interested ?
The tweet below was posted at 12:09 PM, so they sold out in 9 minutes; seems like they should open up a little more inventory with that kind of demand

IMO it would be very wise of them to open up as much inventory as possible. . . even if that means delayed shipping. As the Moto X is a new direction for Motorola, and getting it in as many hands as possible would do a lot for the next generation — it’s a good device but doesn’t have the hype or marketing other devices have and will be overlooked by many.
