Chinese device maker Meizu has been offering phones and tablets for a few years, including a models with unusual features like the new Meizu MX3 with 128GB of storage.

While you can buy Meizu handsets in the US from third party retailers and marketplaces such as PandaWill and AliExpress, Meizu has primarily focused on its home market of China. But now the company is setting its sights on the the United States.

Meizu MX3

Meizu says it plans to preview is smartphones at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January as “the first step in a long-term strategy” to enter the US market.

The company’s latest phones have high-resolution displays, speedy processors, and in at least one case an awful lot of built-in storage space. They run a custom version of Android called Flyme OS.

While the original MX and MX2 phones are decent looking devices, it’s the new MX3 that really stands out, thanks to its 5.1 inch, 1800 x 1080 pixel display, Samsung Exynos 5410 octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and support for 16GB to 128GB of built-in storage.

It’s not clear how long it will take Meizu to actually enter the US market… or if the company will be able to move past the “first step” at all, so the Meizu MX3 might be old news by the time the company is actually selling phones in the States. But it’s a good indication that Meizu is a company to watch.
