Thinking about buying a Windows PC with a touchscreen this month? Microsoft’s looking to sweeten the deal a bit. If you buy a Windows tablet or touchscreen laptop or desktop from a participating retailer by December 28th, 2013, you’ll get a $25 gift card to spend on apps and games from the Windows Store.

Participating retailers include Amazon, Best Buy, Fry’s Staples, Newegg, Office Depot and OfficeMax, Walmart, and the Microsoft Store. Unfortunately the deal’s only good in the US.

Windows Store Gift Cards

Customers will have to redeem their gift card by February 28th, 2014.

There are more than 100 thousand free and paid apps available from the Windows Store. While that’s only about 1/10th the number of apps available from Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store, there are plenty of apps and games to spend your money on… if you’ve already got your heart set on a touchscreen Windows device.

If you don’t, I doubt the $25 credit will change your mind.

Still, it’s not like Microsoft is the only company trying to goose sales by offering incentives. Samsung and other device makers regularly bundle Google Play store credit with the purchase of new Android devices, and Google offers 100GB of Google Drive cloud storage for 2 years to new Chromebook customers.

  1. The $25 is probably more about customer satisfaction and stimulating growth in the Windows Store than boosting sales, though I guess it might help there for someone sitting on the fence.

  2. I just bought an HP tablet off Amazon, however they didn’t mention this promotion. I am contacting Amazon because the information on the web page says to check with the retailer. Since the page belongs in a blog, I have to wonder if it is true.
