It’s not quite a Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal, but Amazon is offering 20 percent discounts on select Kindle eReaders and tablets for a limited time.

Starting prices run from $55 to $184.

Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7

Kindle ($55)

The entry-level Kindle eReader normally sells for $69, but today you can pick one up for $55.20,

That price gets you a device with a 6 inch E Ink display, up to a month of battery life, WiFi and physical buttons (but no touch screen), and 2GB of built-in storage. It weighs about 6 ounces.

You can also get a 20 percent discount on the Kindle Without Special offers if you’d prefer a model that doesn’t have ads on the home screen. That version normally sells for $89, but today it’s available for $71.20.

16GB Kindle Fire HD ($135)

Normally a Kindle Fire HD with 16GB sells for $169. Today it’s available for $135.20.

Interestingly the 8GB model is not on sale, which means you have a choice of paying $135 for 16GB or $139 for 8GB. Go figure.

This model is a tablet running Amazon’s custom version of Android called Fire OS. It has a 7 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, a 1.5 GHz TI OMAP 4 dual-core processor, and weighs about 12 ounces.

Kindle Fire HDX 7 $183)

The Kindle Fire HDX has a 7 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, and 16GB of storage or more. It’s faster and has a better display than the Fire HD, but it’s actually a bit lighter, weighing less than 11 ounces.

Normally Amazon charges $229 and up for the Kindle Fire HDX, but today the cheapest model (with 16GB of storage) is available for $183.20 (or $195.20 without home screen ads).

Unfortunately the 32GB, 64GB, and 4G-capable models aren’t on sale.

  1. No card slot and no access to Google play are the killers for me here.
The specs are great otherwise, I’m just not willing to hack it into Google play compatability if I’m still left with no expandability options.
