Samsung’s Galaxy Gear may be positioned as a watch that lets you view notifications from your Android phone — but it’s actually a wearable device that has the guts of an Android phone — so it’s not surprising that people have figured out how to run ordinary Android apps, install custom ROMs, and even load up the Galaxy Gear with custom recovery tools.
Xda-developer forum member f0mey has posted a build of Team Win Recovery Project designed for the Galaxy Gear.
TWRP is a tool that lets you backup or restore an Android device, wipe your partitions, install or update custom firmware, and make many other changes.
The Galaxy Gear features a 1.6 inch, 320 x 320 pixel Super AMOLED display, an 800 MHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. In other words, it’s about as powerful as a typical smartphone from a few years ago, and tools like TWRP let you use it more like one.
