A lot of PC makers promise all-day battery life, but usually that means 8-10 hours of run time. Toshiba says its new Kirabook laptop will be able to run for up to 22 hours. Assuming you sleep at least two hours a day, that’s seriously an all-day battery.

You’ll have to make a few sacrifices for that kind of battery life. Toshiba offers a model with a high-resolution display and a touchscreen, but it gets 14 hours of battery life… which is still nothing to shake a stick at.

Toshiba Kirabook

The model which the company says offers up to 22 hours of run time sports a 13.3 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, 8GB of RAM, and has an 4th generation Intel Core “Haswell” processor. The ultrabook weighs about 2.5 pounds. It’s expected to sell for about $1450 in Japan starting this week.

The touch-capable, ultra HD model will sell for about $1530.

Toshiba hasn’t announced any plans to sell either model in the United States, but you can still pick up a model from earlier this year, featuring a 3rd generation Intel Core “Ivy Bridge chip, a high-resolution display and significantly shorter battery life for around $1300 and up.

  1. This would be a great laptop if it had Linux Mint instead of Windows 8 and Metro Tiles!

  2. Well the MacBook Air 13″ has a 1440 by 900 screen and starts at $1099. For the price difference of $350 one could buy an additional battery if 12hrs is not enough. And it comes pre-loaded with productivity apps. And you don’t have to purchase an anti-virus. Hmm which one would I choose.

    1. ….You think a Mac can’t get viruses!? and that no free functional AVs exist?

      Gerroutahere…

All kidding aside, The Air has 4gb of ram, this has 8. This probably has a much larger hard drive, too.

not to say the Air is not a good machine- for those who NEED that, the Air is brilliant, but you get more from the hardware with this.

      *Buys, Installs Mavericks, Saves $350*

      1. Well for one thing, a Mac cannot get a root kernel exploit by visiting a page with a crafted font in it, can it? The bug Microsoft keeps fixing for the past 3 years (last fix was this November).

So yeah, a Mac is definitely in less need of an AV. Microsoft Windows is still full of holes like a piece of Swiss cheese.

        1. Well, nobody has found one. Doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Less people looking you see, and fewer machines to attack. The chances are if you filled the world with Macs we’d find loads of security holes like this.

Apple had to disable Java on their machines for a while last year due to a security issue that compromised their machines.

However, I do love my Mac Mini. It was a tad overpriced but it does it’s job.

  3. Updgrades? 😛 Thanks for the update! Been looking at this laptop for a while!

    1. that “high resolution” meant the other version

but still: that’s just bullshit and no usable display. i bet it’s glossy too. -.-
      further: no mention of ports.
