Ouya is expanding its tiny video game console lineup with a new model sporting a white case and controller and twice the storage of the original.

The new white Ouya has 16GB of built-in storage and a $129 price tag. Ouya’s calling it a Limited Edition model, but if it sells well there’s no reason it couldn’t stick around for a while.

The black Ouya console with 8GB if still available for $100.

The rest of the specs remain unchanged. The new Ouya Limited Edition White Console sports the same NVIDA Tegra 3 ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and Android-based software as the original.

It has 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 micro USB port, WiFi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, and HDMI output and you get a game console, wireless controller, and HDMI cable when you buy the device.

The Tegra 3 processor is starting to look a little dated now that NVIDIA has a faster ARM Cortex-A15 alternative, and the latest chips from Samsung and Qualcomm also outperform NVIDIA’s older chip. But there are still plenty of games designed to run well on a Tegra 3 chip, and at $130 or less the Ouya is significantly cheaper than a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One… which isn’t surprising, since it’s also significantly less powerful.

But the Ouya wasn’t really designed to challenge those top-tier gaming systems. It’s designed to make living room gaming more accessible, both for gamers and game developers.

  1. I have to admit I use the controller more than the console itself.

    1. Yeah, they’re really in over their heads still using Tegra 3 and selling it at this price.

      1. IMHO they didn’t get to market soon enough by the time this came out the Tegra4 was announced and the Nexus 7 had been out for 6 months.

    2. The SoC market is moving rapidly and by the time a Tegra 4 based Ouya is designed and manufactured it will be outdated. The Ouya 2, if there is one, needs to use the Tegra 5 in order to remain competitive.
