Don’t want to carry around a handheld gaming console and a phone, but hate gaming on a touchscreen-only device? There’s a phone that splits the difference.

The Much i5 is an Android smartphone with a 5 inch display, a MediaTek quad-core processor, and buttons built into the side of the case that you can use to play games.

It’s available from Geekbuying for $200 or from Willgoo for $220.

Much i5

While the Much i5 looks like a gaming tablet, it can also make phone calls and support 2G and 3G mobile networks.

Here’s an overview of the specs:

  • 5 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel capacitive touchscreen IPS display
  • 1.2 GHz MediaTek MTK6589 quad-core CPU
  • PowerVR SGX 544 graphics
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 4GB of storage
  • microSD card slot
  • 2G GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
  • 3G WCDMA 850/2100 MHz
  • 802.11b/g WiFi
  • Bluetooth 2.1
  • FM Radio
  • 8MP rear camera
  • mini HDMI port
  • micro USB port
  • headset jack
  • 3550mAh battery
  • 7.2″ x 3.5″ x 0.6″
  • 9 ounces

Willgoo has posted a series of videos showing the Much i5 playing games (including a few emulated PlayStation games), and working as a phone. Performance looks pretty good — although I’m still kind of wondering how you’d hold this phone to your face without leaving impressions of the buttons on our cheek after you end the call.

  1. seems like only 2G in the US. And now I have a phone-console hybrid
    Interesting

    1. There’s an i5s floating around now. Micro SD up to 64gb, and ROM 16gb I believe…

  2. I’d worry more about the impression you’ll make on associates as you try to use a cheap Chinese gaming handheld as an actual smart phone.
But hey you’ll be the highest scoring Super Mario playa at the office!

I’ll let things like call reliability and battery life go as secondary issues…
