Taiwanese chip maker MediaTek’s processors are already pretty popular with manufacturers of low-cost tablets. While the company is preparing to launch more powerful chips for higher-end tablets, it looks like MediaTek is also taking a walk on the even cheaper side.
The new MediaTek MT8121 is a quad-core chip designed for tablets that will sell for around $99 or even less.
The MT8121 isn’t the company’s first quad-core chip, but it’s a highly integrated chip which is designed to be cost-efficient for device makers, since it features WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS functionality all on the same chip as the processor.
The processor is expected to sport an ARM Cortex-A7 with Power VR series 5 graphics.
MediaTek has reportedly already begun mass production of the new chip, and the first tablets featuring MT8121 processors are expected to hit the streets in early 2014.

I see another purpose – possibly cheap ARM-powered Linux laptops
Maybe but the storage is a mess, at least in the actual ARM systems.
