HP is launching its most portable Chromebook to date. The HP Chromebook 11 is a 2.3 pound laptop with an 11.6 inch IPS display. It has ARM Cortex-A15 processor and the notebook is designed to get up to 6 hours of battery life. The HP Chromebook 11 is available from the Google Play Store for $279. The HP Chromebook 11 runs Google’s Chrome OS software, comes with 100GB of free Google Drive storage space for 2 years, and features a 60-day free trial of Google Play Music All Access, the company’s internet music-on-demand service.
HP’s new Chromebook will come with black or white cases, and the white models will be available with color accents including red, blue, green, or yellow. The notebook has a full-sized keyboard and touchpad, 2 USB 2.0 ports, and a webcam.
It’s powered by a Samsung Exynos 5250 dual-core processor and features 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. It has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display. The HP Chromebook 11 has a microUSB port for charging, and a SlimPort for video output.
The laptop measures 11.7″ x 7.6″ x 0.7″, and has a fanless design. It has a VGA webcam, a headset jack, and 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. HP will also offer a model with Verizon 4G LTE connectivity.
Overall the Chromebook 11 seems like a pretty nice machine… but its specs are remarkably similar to those for the Samsung XE303 Chromebook which launched nearly a year ago and which sells for less than $250.
Brad, what kind of display does the HP Chromebook have? I have both the Acer and the Samsung Chromebooks and prefer the non-glossy display of the Samsung.
It’s glossy, but the glare isn’t too bad.
It’s available now in the PlayStore, shipping by October 11.
Not that you’d want an HP…
HP introduces another groundbreaking product !!!
/sarcasm
Seriously, this should be minimally a 2Ghz, quad-A15 model to be any interesting. They managed to create an XE303 one full year after the original.
I would be still interested if it came with full Linux support but this is fairly unlikely.
I’m impressed by several elements of the Chromebook 11 and I would have almost certainly chosen it over my Samsung Series 3 if it were available when I bought it, but I feel like HP and Google could have pushed the envelope spec-wise a little more. The only good thing to come of it though is that it will likely increase the longevity of development for both ARM Chromebooks given their similar specs, which can’t hurt. I would have bought this in a heartbeat if it came with Haswell and a pricetag around $350.
Pretty crappy battery life.
that was my first thought as well. . . “6hr with that low of resolution and laptop size battery, wtf?”
You hit the nail on the head! The specs aren’t significantly different than the Samsung XE303. I don’t know why I would waste my time.
Why not the quad core version of the Exynos processor?
Because it is a sub-$300 Chromebook? More cores is not always better.
Wait, more money for an HP over a Samsung? Where do I sign up? Although the micro-usb charging is really nice and one less brick to carry when traveling. Hopefully Samsung’s next ARM chromebook follows suit.
Too bad, another slow ARM model with only 2GB RAM (I had the Samsung ARM). I’ll go for one of the announced with a 4 GB RAM & Haswell Celeron processor from HP, Acer, Toshiba or Asus which wound be (much) more expensive
It’s pity that HP Chromebook with 14″ only comes with Intel Haswell
SoC and not any big.LITTLE ARM-based SoC!
What’s a “2.3 laptop”?
2.3 pounds.. when written way too quickly.
Let me update that 🙂
