Lenovo is updating its Yoga convertible laptop lineup with a new model featuring a higher-resolution display, faster processor options, a backlit keyboard, and a lighter case, among other things.
The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro will be available soon for $1099 and up.
Like the original Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga, the Yoga 2 Pro looks like a laptop, until you rotate the screen back 360 degrees so that it’s resting below the keyboard. Then it looks like a tablet, and it’s got the touchscreen display to match.
What’s new is that instead of a 13.3 inch, 1600 x 900 pixel display, the new model has a 13.3 inch, 3200 x 1800 pixel screen.
The new model is also thinner and lighter, measuring 0.61 inches thick and weighing 3.49 pounds. Despite the thinner size, Lenovo is promising longer battery life, with up to 9 hours of run time.
The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro will be available with up to an Intel Core i7 Haswell processor, up to 512GB of solid state storage, and up to 8GB of RAM.
It features WiFi, Bluetooth, Dolby audio, and Intel HD graphics. Lenovo has also moved the antenna to offer better performance with Intel’s WiDi wireless display technology.
The computer runs Windows 8.1, and Lenovo is also pre-loading it with a series of new apps including a Phone Companion for sharing content from your PC to your mobile device, a photo sharing app, and a few other apps.
One of the more interesting apps is something called Yoga Picks. It’s a utility that will automatically recommend certain apps depending on what mode you’re using the Yoga in. For instance, it’s more likely to show video apps in “tent” mode, where the device is propped up like a TV, productivity apps when it’s in laptop mode, or eReading apps in tablet mode.
