You know how Amazon says the new Kindle Paperwhite has a higher contrast screen than its predecessors? It looks like Amazon has E Ink to thank for that.
The company that makes the screens found in most eReaders has unveiled its next-gen display technology, called “Carta.”
According to E Ink, the new screens have whiter backgrounds and higher contrast ratios than any other ePaper displays, with a 50 percent contrast ratio improvement and 20 percent improvement in reflectance over the previous E Ink display technology.
The new screens also don’t need to be fully refreshed after every few page flips like earlier displays. This lets you read more pages without getting distracted by your screen flickering to black.
The Kindle Paperwhite is the first eReader to use the new display technology, but it likely won’t be the last.
Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite is up for pre-order for $119 and it should ship starting September 30th.
I want a large monitor of eink for programming purposes. It would make a good second head.
Id say I want all mobile devices to come with transflective(sp?) displays, PixelQi comes to mind, but somehow they havent got much love from OEM’s and big companies.
