The Alcatel One Touch Evo 8HD is an 8 inch tablet with a 1024 x 768 pixel display, Rockchip dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. In other words it’d be nothing to write home about… if it weren’t for a few intriguing accessories designed to work with the low-end tablet.

There’s a “Magic” flip cover, for instance, which has LED lights to display notifications even when the screen is covered. You can also use the tablet with the Alcatel One Touch Home V100, a stick that you can plug into your TV’s HDMI port to wirelessly stream content from the tablet to your television.

Alcatel describes the tablet as a modular device thanks to its support for these and other accessories which can extend its capabilities. There are also less unusual accessories including a docking station/stand and a magnetic flip-cover.

The Alcatel One Touch Evo 8HD features a Rockchip RK3066 dual-core processor, an IPS display, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean software, and a microSD card slot. It has a 3MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, and a 4160mAh battery. The tablet measures 8.7″ x 6″ x 0.35″ and weighs 14.6 ounces.

It has built-in support for 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth, and you can also add 3G HSPA+ or 4G LTE connectivity to the tablet with a removable module.

  1. Pretty low specd tablet. Not sure what pricing will be but users would probably be better off picking up last years Nexus7.

  2. Looks quite tempting as an iPad Mini alternative, IMO. Pricing will make or break it.
