Hot on the heels of the MINIX Neo X7, the folks at MINIX are working on a smaller version called the Neo X7mini.

The mini model has similar specs, but a smaller case. It’s expected to hit the streets in late August or early September.

Minix Neo X7mini

The MINIX Neo X7mini  features 2GB of RAM, support for 1080pHD video playback, 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth. It also supports Miracast wireless display technology.

It’s designed to connect to your TV and let you run Android apps on the big screen. You can use the included remote control to navigate video playback, or you can connect a keyboard, mouse, or other peripherals to play games, surf the web, or run other apps.

Around the sides you’ll find 2 USB ports, an SD card reader, HDMI and Ethernet ports, and an S/PDIF port. You’d get a few more ports with the full-sized Neo X7, but the little model still has more features than your average low-cost Android TV box.

The MINIX Neo X7mini measures about 3.9″ x 3.9″ x 0.9″ and has an ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core processor. If it’s anything like the slightly larger model, it’ll have a Rockchip RK3188 quad-core processor and ship with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean software.

I haven’t seen actual dimensions for the full-sized Neo X7, but the mini is about two thirds of the size of the larger model (which has 3 USB ports and 3.5mm jacks for audio input and output all of which are easier to fit thanks to the larger case).

While the Neo X7mini is expected to hit the streets later this month or early next month, the MINIX Neo X7 should go on sale in the next week or so.
