LG is probably the largest international consumer electronics company that’s based in South Korea and which isn’t called Samsung. Both companies make everything from washing machines to smartphones — although Samsung has been the bigger name in mobile devices in recent years.
Now it looks like LG wants to play in pretty much every mobile space that Samsung is in. A spokesperson for the company in Bulgaria recently gave an interview where he outlined some of LG’s upcoming mobile devices.
Those devices include a new 6 inch smartphone, the company’s first device running Mozilla’s Firefox OS, and a return to tablets.
LG has offered a few Android tablets in the past, but we haven’t really seen a new model since 2011. There’ve been hints that this would change soon, with a chance we’ll see a new 8.3 inch model and 9.8 inch model.
The company is also planning to launch some sort of smartwatch. It’d probably be more surprising if a major electronics company said it wasn’t planning to release a smartwatch. While most of the folks who’ve discussed plans to bring smartwatches to market are small companies with Kickstarter campaigns, Apple, Samsung, and Google are all expected to introduce smartwatches in the next year or so.
