Google has dropped the price of the Nexus 4 smartphone to just $199 for a model with 8GB of storage, or $249 for a 16GB model. That’s $100 cheaper than the original price for those phones — and those prices were already better than almost anything else on the market in the US.
The Nexus 4 smartphones are sold without any wireless service contracts, so the price you pay up front is pretty much all you pay for the phone. If you buy a $200 phone from a wireless carrier, you usually end up paying at least a few hundreds dollars extra to cover the real cost of the phone over the course of your contract.
Google’s Nexus 4 smartphone is built by LG, and features a 4.7 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel display, a Qalcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, and 2GB of RAM. It launched in late 2012.
The price drop could be a sign that Google is looking to clear out inventory before launching a new model… or maybe the company will take a page out of Apple’s book and continue to offer last year’s model at a new, lower price while introducing new phones with higher-end specs for $299 and up.
Either way, while the original Nexus 4 may not be as fast or have a screen resolution as high as those found on the latest phones from LG, Samsung, HTC, or Sony — but it’s available for a fraction of the price of any of those phones (if you were to buy them unlocked and without a contract), and as a Nexus device it’ll likely continue to be first in line for software updates from Google for at least the next year or so.

You’re right! For some reason I’d thought that only the ones sold by T-Mobile were capable of operating on their 1700 band. It makes no sense to me how T-Mobile can offer this same phone off-contract for $482.

This is how I feel too. I use my removal storage on my NON-Google phone constantly (in fact I require a removable battery too for my uses). These are must have features for me personally. But this is a very good price on a still very capable phone for those who don’t require a microSD card or removable battery (no I wouldn’t use a giant Juicer case either).

why is it different in every country the us $199 australia $249 why do we need to always pay more ??? thats why more and more people are discovering cheap Chinese stuff as an alternative. and its not just this every thing is more expensive iTunes apps every thing its sooo silly
Because some countries have that pesky thing called VAT and other taxes.
Because they seem to think they can get away with ripping you off. But actually, it does have a lot to do with shipping costs and volume to your outlying country (read, it’s not that easy to get to).
i am sure when you buy a song from iTunes that there are no shipping charges i think its the taxes that the government is putting on us when we buy little electronic goods but when it comes to people like apple and google they are just in it to rip us off
