One of these days (possibly Wednesday) Google’s going to get around to officially unveiling its new 7 inch tablet. But by then, there probably won’t be much we don’t know about the updated Google Nexus 7.

Thanks to a series of leaks, we have a good idea what kind of specs the tablet will have and what it looks like. Now one person even claims to have placed an order and an unnamed retail store — although the tablet hasn’t yet been delivered and it’s not entirely clear if the receipt is real.

Google Nexus 7 Android Police leak

The folks at Android Police have posted a series of new images showing the next-gen Nexus 7 from pretty much every important angle. The pictures also show a new wallpaper, which could me the new default wallpaper for Android 4.3.

It looks like the bezels on the short sides of the tablet are a little wider than on the original Nexus 7, which should make the tablet a little easier to hold in landscape mode.

If all the leaks we’ve seen so far hold up, then you can probably expect the tablet to have a 7 inch, 1920 x 1200 pixel display, a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.3 software, wireless charging, and video output through a Slim Port.

Prices are expected to start at $229.99 for a model with 16GB of storage, while a 32GB model will sell for $269.99.

You can find more pictures at Android Police.

  1. Can´t wait to get it a year or two from now when the next model is released.

    1. I have to agree. After owning and loving a BB PlayBook which has high quality front firing speakers, I would not get any tablet with speakers anywhere else on the device. Back=totally stupid design (muddled and muted sound). Even the amazing sound on the HP TouchPad suffers from the speakers being on the bottom of the device. Try listening in bed sometime with the speakers firing into your chest. You have to flip the tablet so the speakers fire towards the ceiling. All speakers need to have their sound projected AT THE USER sitting directly in front of the device…

      1. Funny that you mention the PlayBook. I recently read the article here https://liliputing.com/2013/07/why-the-blackberry-playbook-is-still-worth-buying.html

Yesterday I bought a used 16GB PlayBook with the rapid charging dock and an HDMI cable all for $50 on ebay. The USB port on it is broken. But from what I understand you don’t need to use that.

I realized that what I spend most of my time doing is watching and listening to YouTube. Why spend more money for better specs on another tablet when I still end up listening to crappy sound.

        1. It’s a very decent unit that didn’t get the polish needed to succeed from the start. You’ll like your tablet for the most part. Make sure you get the new OrigamiBrowser (freshly released) from BB World. It is a VERY good browser (and free) and will make you very happy. I’d buy Neutron Music Player for a very good music player too ($4.99). It’s one of the few tablets that can be read/used out in bright sunshine. Learn how to sideload Android apps too…go to YouTube and watch some videos on DDPB. It’s free software too.

The only time you’ll need the usb port is to restore/backup the OS from Desktop software or to directly tether to a computer. Mind you, you can use wi-fi for that and even to sideload apps. Go to Crackberry.com’s forums to learn lots.

          1. Thanks for the apps tips. I was reading about OragamiBrowser on Crackberry forums and plan to get it. Hopefully I won’t ever need to restore the OS. I watched some reviews and it’s impressive how well it handles flash in the browser. It’ll be nice to have the full YouTube website experience on a tablet without having to use an app for it.

      2. I suppose that you could listen with headphones, but that would totally defeat the purpose of having speakers at all. There have to be some trade offs a little larger case than the screen so the sound can go straight to the listener/viewer.
