Lenovo appears to prepping a new notebook with a 12.5 inch touchscreen display and an Intel Haswell processor. Product manuals and retail documents for an unannounced model called the Lenovo ThinkPad X240s Touch have started popping up.

Lenovo ThinkPad X240S Touch

The new notebook appears to be similar to the upcoming ThinkPad X230S thin and light notebook, but with a touchscreen and 4th-generation Intel Core processor.

While Lenovo is offering full HD display options for some upcoming ThinkPad laptops such as the 14 inch ThinkPad T440S, the new 12.5 inch model seems to pack a 1366 x 768 pixel screen. The rest of the specs aren’t all that exciting either:

  • 4GB of RAM
  • 320GB, 7200rpm hard drive
  • 720p webcam
  • 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • USB 3.0, Ethernet, D-Sub, mini DisplayPort
  • SDXC card reader
  • 6 cell battery for up to 6 hours of run time
  • 12″ x 8.1″ x 0.77″
  • 3 pounds

On the bright side, you do get a couple of business-friendly features including a SIM Card slot, a TrackPoint button in the center of the keyboard, and a case that you can disassemble to replace the storage or other components. It also has a spill-resistant keyboard and a sturdy roll-cage design.

The laptop is expected to be available with Intel Core i5-4200U and Core i7-4500U processor options when it launches in August.

  1. No removable battery and no extended battery option? Can this be docked? Sounds like ThinkPads are moving away from the business market and into the consumer market. Also, pressing clickpads is annoying and forcing trackpoint users to press the clickpad makes it worse.

Looks like I’ll be asking my IT department for an EliteBook or Latitude when it’s time to replace my X230 later this year.

  2. no trackpoint-buttons (screw that touchpad, it sucks – i won’t use it)

max. 6h battery (probably meaning real 4h) is hardly what i would call “all day”

display resolution of not even 800px vertical (really? the year 2005 has called, it wants it’s display back! …no, i won’t use that touch-input either)
mini DisplayPort and D-Sub? i would happily exchange both for hdmi (but thats ‘ok’)

mechanical harddrive? REALLY? WHAT? WHY? WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO YOU LENOVO?

and to add insult to injury: chicklet-keyboard, only 4GB RAM and a 12.5″ screen is a tad to big for my taste -.-

  3. Still waiting for more Windows based Haswell laptops and ultrabooks with 10-12 hour battery life… 🙁

  4. That trackpad… I guess I’m not buying this year’s ThinkPad like I do every year. My X230’s clickpad is difficult to press especially during plonged use. Now it’s forced on users when using the trackpoint.
